Seeking officers for 2011

The Ohio chapter is seeking officer candidates for 2011. The WiNUP Guidelines ask that chapters wrap-up elections by their September meetings.

Under the chapter's minimum officer criteria, members who joined the organization before 2009 are eligible to seek a chapter office. Interested eligible members should complete the officer application form/questionnaire, and email it to Cindy Kolecki (sskolecki@aep.com) no later than Friday, Aug. 27. The applications will be reviewed, and ballots prepared and distributed Aug. 30 for general membership voting. Cast ballots will be accepted through Sept. 10.

Positions to be filled are vice chair, treasurer, secretary and international board rep. As 2009-2010 vice chair/president-elect, Cindy Kolecki automatically assumes the role of chapter chair for 2011. These officers and the immediate past chapter chair make up the chapter executive committee. New officers assume their duties on Jan 1.

Officer responsibilities and term lengths follow:

Vice Chair -- 3-year commitment. first as vice chair, then chair and then immediate past chair. Primary duties as vice chair:

  • serve as chair of program committee;
  • preside in the absence of the chair at regular chapter meetings, executive committee or special meetings;
  • other duties as assigned by executive committee or the chair;
  • succeed the chair as chair for the following year; and
  • as immediate past president, sit as member of and advisor to the chapter executive committee.

Treasurer -- 1-year term. Primary duties:

  • keep books of chapter; maintain chapter bank accounts; etc.;
  • track all receipts and disbursements of chapter funds and provide report at regular chapter meetings;
  • pay all chapter bills;
  • serve as a member of the chapter finance committee; and
  • perform all other duties as assigned by chapter executive committee

Secretary -- 1-year term. Primary duties:

  • take minutes of all meeting; keep official record of meetings, etc.;
  • serve as custodian of chapter's corporate records, except those pertaining to treasurer;
  • handle all correspondence except that pertaining to offices of chair and treasurer;
  • prepare and distribute current chapter roster at beginning of fiscal year;
  • serve as historian if none appointed by chair; and
  • perform all other duties as assigned by chapter executive committee

International Board Rep -- 2-year term

The international board (IB) is WiNUP's governing body, The IB typically meets quarterly to conduct business via conference calls. Special sessions are called as needed. In addition, the IB has two face-to-face meetings -– the June summer board meeting and the annual board meeting. The summer board meeting usually is held in the international president’s home state or home city. The annual board meeting takes place the Sunday preceding the opening of the annual conference, usually in October.

Board rep duties:

  • represents the chapter at international board of directors meeting, both via phone and in person;
  • reports international board decisions back to chapter chair to share with membership;
  • prepares and presents the chapter activity reports for the IB summer and fall board meetings;
  • provides quarterly international update for chapter newsletter;
  • perform such other duties as may be assigned by the chapter executive committee or chair; and
  • may be asked to serve as an international committee chair or to be a member of one or more international committees.
